Day 1: Salvador

Arrive to Salvador, a fascinating Afro-Brazilian cultural and historical center of Brazil. Upon arrival, your private driver will take you to your hotel, Pestana Convento do Carmo, chosen by Travel +Leisure Magazine as “One of the  Best New Hotels in the World.”, Initially built in 1586 by the First Order of Carmelite Friars, The Convent has been the stage of many significant events of Brazilian history throughout the centuries, and after careful restoration is now the leading luxury historic hotel in Brazil. A basket of exotic tropical fruits will be waiting for you in your amazing Master Suite.

On your first night in Salvador we recommend you treat yourself to a delicious fresh seafood dinner in a romantic setting at of one of the best restaurants of Bahia. The glass floor allows seeing gentle waves crashing under you, and the view of the bay is simply magic. Try the great ceviche, seafood risotto, or any of the fish dishes, and you will never want to leave this place.

Day 2: Salvador

A private city tour of Salvador, Brazil’s oldest city and one of the most beautiful and interesting in the country is at the top of the list today. As the first capital of Brazil from 1549 to 1763, Salvador de Bahia witnessed the blending of European, African and local Indian cultures.  With the easygoing nature of the locals, Brazilians and international visitors love Salvador for its bright tropical beaches, exceptional local cuisine that uses the freshest seafood, red palm tree oils, and exotic fruits and vegetables, and its musical heritage that has its roots in traditional African music. Discover the city’s most significant sites, including the São Francisco Church, with its gold-leaf Baroque interior, and Pelourinho, the city’s historic center, deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its colonial-era, pastel-colored architecture.

Dine at a traditional Bahian restaurant, with it’s gorgeous Bahian setting and the delicious cuisine in the best North-Eastern traditions. After dinner, enjoy an amazing folkloric show that showcases the essence of Salvador and the country’s unique Afro-Brazilian culture and musical heritage.

Day 3: Salvador/Cachoeira/Salvador

Following a tasty breakfast, your guide will take you to Cachoeira, the charming colonial town built in 17th century during the peak of Brazil’s sugarcane boom. On the way to Cachoeira you will pass a variety of plantations, including sugarcane, cotton, cocoa, and tobacco.  Protected by the National Institute for Historical and Artistic Heritage since 1971, Cachoeira remains one of the unique cities to display important Baroque architectural heritage in Bahia. You will spend the afternoon strolling picturesque streets that are lined with multi-colored colonial houses adorned with Portuguese tiles facades and learning about practices of the local religion, Candomble, which has strong connections to Voodoo. It’s also the home of some of Brazil’s most authentic Afro-Brazilian rituals.

Day 4: Salvador/Itacare (Txai)

Today you will board a quick flight to Ilheus, where your private driver will pick you up from the VIP lounge in the airport and drive you to your heavenly retreat, the ‘Barefoot chic’ Txai resort. Located on a perfect stretch of sand, where the unspoiled beach Itacarezinho and awe-inspiring verdant Atlantic rainforest meet, it’s a true paradise and one of the most romantic places in the world. Day 5: Txai

After your first perfect breakfast at Txai, spend your day discovering resort’s amazing grounds, beach, and spa. Txai’s first philosophy is exclusivity. Day 6: Txai

Today your romantic adventure starts with a 2.4 miles (4km) walk with your private guide from Itacarezinho beach towards the mouth of River Tijuípe in low tide*. Then, you’ll climb up the river in Canadian canoes until you come to a gorgeous natural pool. It’s time to swim and relax in dazzling waters, followed by a fresh ‘caipirinha’ (Brazilian national cocktail, made with sugar cane rum, raw sugar and lime) and a delicious Brazilian appetizer cooked on a wood stove at a Fazenda (traditional Brazilian Plantation House). Enjoy the scenery of coconut groves, mangroves and the lazy river flowing into the sea. Finish your day sampling Bahian and Brazilian cuisine at one of three Txai’s excellent restaurants, sitting just off the picturesque beach and enjoying delightful views of the ocean and Atlantic coast.

Day 7: Txai

Today, your private guide will introduce to you the virgin beaches of Jeribucaçu  and Arruda (optional tour). The exquisite landscape formed by the encounter of Jeribucaçú River with the ocean impresses even the most experienced travelers. From the Jeribucaçú gate, you will stroll downhill to reach this stunning place, offering both surf waves and a large lagoon, which is perfect for swimming. The beach also features one of the most impressive mangrove river systems of Itacaré. On the left side of Jeribucaçú is the Arruda, a small coral beach that is almost always deserted. After you follow the trail through mangrove and Atlantic Forest, you will reach the Mill waterfalls, where the refreshing waters will invite you for an energizing bath. Finish your day with an exotic dinner at a wonderful Txai restaurant, or head to the village of Itacare for a fresh seafood fest.

Day 8: Txai

Spend your morning enjoying a couples massage at the fabulously scenic Shamash Spa. Relax with a view and the mesmerizing sound of the ocean. Relieved of pain and fatigue, you will be completely relaxed and at ease. You can take a refreshing swim in your private pool, have lunch and relax, and then take a cruise to Rio de Contas, the river that separates the mainland from the southern tip of Marau peninsula. Your guide, armed with a long pole, and you, blissfully relaxed, will take a peaceful trip aboard a Caiçara Canoe (optional tour). These dugout canoes are found along the Southeast and South coast of Brazil. Built from a single tree log about 10 to 40 feet long (depending on how many men will use it), these are native canoes, used for centuries, to fish on coasts and in rivers and lagoons.  After gliding through mangroves and capturing unforgettable views, what could be better than a toast of Brazilian caipirinha at sunset on board  a Caiçara Canoe…

Day 9: Txai

Spend the morning leisurely, or visit the lovely village of Itacare. Surround yourself in the history and culture of Bahia while you stroll through cobblestone streets of colonial houses. Sample the afro-influenced delicious food, revel in the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira, and discover the indigenous religion of Candomle. The village is small, but teeming with life.

Later on today you will be driven to the airport for your flight home. Enjoy the exclusive VIP lounge before your flight out of Ilheus airport. Time to say “tchau” to your “barefoot chic” honeymoon, and start dreaming about your next amazing trip with Charming Destinations!
